Johnny Pacific

Another hole in the wall, my favorite kinds of restaurants! Located on 7574 Winnetka Ave,
Canoga Park, CA 91306, (Winnetka and Saticoy) Johnny Pacific offers a wide selection of empanadas and other treats. I will admit if it wasn't recommended to me, I probably never would have gone inside. A lack of ambiance is very apparent and there are only about 6 tables with an odd combination of surf themed decor, Spanish guitars, and other random pictures on the walls. The staff is very friendly though and are open to answering all of your questions.

The meal my table and I shared consisted of: chicken satay skewers with a mango mixed green salad and sticky rice, and bbq pulled pork, chicken el pastor, and kailua pig empanadas. The chicken skewers were very juicy which I  always have trouble finding with skewers. I usually find mine to be dry so this was a nice change. The mango in my salad was a nice touch which I have never tried. It fit the "pacific" theme of the restaurant perfectly.

If you have not guessed already, these are not the regular empanadas we usually think of. The staff explained to me that every country has their own form of a "meat pie" similar to an empanada. Johnny Pacific offers 10 different meat empanadas, 4 veggie, and  5 dessert empanadas. Each empanada  comes with a different dipping sauce that compliments it perfectly. I was not a fan of the chicken el pastor, but the bbq pulled pork and kailua pig  were to die for! And if you are not a fan of eating out, you can take home your own frozen empanadas to cook at home!  I definitely recommend Johnny Pacific!
